Today I am learning about how podcasts work.
The audio podcast I chose is an Ellery Queen episode. Ellery Queen mysteries are typical mystery stories. The assignment would be for students to listen to the story and analyze the elements of fiction as they would for any story and the elements and conventions of mystery stories in particular.
If Monday night broke our hearts, Tuesday’s game ground the pieces into dust. South Carolina soundly defeated the Gators, 5-2, in a sweep at the College World Series. What was a great season for Florida ended at the hands of a team kissed by fate. Too bad for us, but how wonderful for the Gamecocks to have back-to-back championships; when Florida managed to do that in basketball a few years back, it was pretty special. (Congratulations, Nena.)
In one of the absolute-best college baseball games I have ever seen, South Carolina broke Gator hearts last night, winning 2-1 in the 13th inning. A couple of unbelievable defensive gems at the plate by the Gamecocks when the Gators had loaded the bases in the 9th, and two uncharacteristic fielding errors by the Gators led to the loss. (Congratulations, Nena, on the win.)
Knowing how well they bounced back from a loss to Mississippi State in the super-regionals, I am confident the Gators will be ready to play tonight. Now I’m going to see if I’m right.
Another game with Vanderbilt, another win! Ho hum? Nope. This one was close until the end, but 6-4 did the trick.
Now we face another familiar SEC foe, South Carolina, in the championship, best 2-of-3 series. It starts Monday. If we can sweep them, I won’t be sitting distracted beyond measure in my night class Wednesday night.
Go Gators!

Here is our assignment:
I was eager to get home from KSU today to catch the end of the Florida-Vanderbilt game that was called last night in the sixth inning because of rain. At the time, the Gators were leading 3-0. The game resumed at the same time as my ENED 9400 class began this morning, so it was over when I made it home. Not to worry. Game ended 3-1. Florida gets a couple of days off.
Way to go, Gators!
Just want to tell the world that my 7741 partners–Colette Armstrong and Nena Greene–are terrific! We are putting the finishing touches on three different media projects for this class, and WE ROCK! I am so proud of what we have done.
You don’t suppose we could talk the “powers-that-be” into letting us do a three-way doctoral dissertation, do you?
Nah, that’s what I figured. Too bad.
